Welcome to our first edition of HERDsentinel.  We hope to publish this informational, interactive online magazine on a quarterly basis, or as nearly so as the demands of wild horse protection efforts allow.  We will feature single articles about wild horses and burros, as well as ongoing, serial articles on particular topics, such as laws governing Wild Horse and Burro management, and stories about wild horses and burros, written by the Central Oregon Wild Horse Coalition or guest contributors.

We are committed to a section for kids, with articles we hope will interest young people, with challenges and activities for kids of varying ages.  We also hope that adults will share the 'big people' content, with appropriate discretion, with kids who express interest in learning more.

This inaugural issue is free to all, and we hope you will share widely.  In the future, it will be available to anyone who donates a minimum of $25 annually.  For the first year, the Kids' section, "Fargo's Band" will be made available without increased minimum donation, because we feel kids have had enough bad news and even personal hardship to last a long while.  It's time for something fun.

Our gift to you for a $25 annual donation is HERDsentinel, a (hopefully!) quarterly online publication.

If any of these articles leave you with questions, please contact us at contact@herd-magazine.com.

UPDATE! The Ochoco National Forest has released its "Finding of No Significant Impact" and "Decision Notice" along with a revised Environmental Assessment for its revised Ochoco Wild Horse Management Plan. If you were not aware, the Ochoco National Forest has proposed that the current herd population of approximately 130 horses be reduced permanently to a range of 12-57 horses. We are now in the "Objection" phase, which means the comments previously submitted to the Draft Environmental Assessment have been addressed and we are moving into the final phase. Next year, they will begin capturing horses - If we do not stop them. Formal commenting is not open to general public at this time, but nothing can prevent YOU from contacting them to express your opinion.
